What is the difference between a link-style tension Dynamometer and a running line tensiometer?
A link-style Dynamometer (such as the Dillon EDXtreme or Crosby Straightpoint Radiolink Plus) is rigged inline between two shackles at a dead-end anchor or crane hook to measure static suspended loads or straight-line pulls. A running line tensiometer (such as the Straightpoint TIMH or CableSafe) uses a 5-sheave roller geometry that clamps onto a continuous wire or synthetic rope, measuring live line tension, speed, and distance while the cable is actively moving through a winch or capstan.
When should I choose a load shackle over a standard tension link Dynamometer?
Choose Straightpoint Shackle Load Cells (Loadshackles) when vertical headroom is restricted. A standard link Dynamometer requires two shackles (upper and lower), which adds vertical length to the rigging path. A load shackle integrates a shear-pin load sensor directly inside a Crosby 2130 or 2140 anchor shackle, saving substantial headroom in compact hoists, theatrical rigging, and offshore lifts.
Should I select Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz wireless telemetry for remote load monitoring?
- Bluetooth Load Cells (Dillon EDXtreme-Blue, Straightpoint BlueLink, CableSafe, ChainSafe) connect directly to iOS and Android smartphones or tablets at ranges up to 164–328 ft (50–100 m) without requiring a dedicated handheld receiver—ideal for mobile field crews and quick PDF/CSV site reporting.
- 2.4 GHz Long-Range Radio Systems (Crosby Straightpoint RLP and Dillon "Red" EDXtreme Radio) provide extended line-of-sight ranges from 600 ft (183 m) up to 3,280 ft (1,000 m) and allow simultaneous multi-point load summation on a dedicated handheld communicator (EDX-COMM-II or SW-HHP) or PC software (INSIGHT / SW-MWLC).
Do Dynamometers in this category include shackles and NIST-Traceable Calibration Certificates?
All Dillon AP, Dillon EDjunior, Dillon EDXtreme, and Dillon EDXtreme-Blue models up to 25,000 lbs (and most higher capacities) include a matched pair of shackles and a NIST-traceable calibration certificate as standard. On Crosby Straightpoint RLP Radiolink Plus listings, models with the -WS suffix include two Crosby shackles, while -TS models are supplied without shackles (which can also be ordered separately via our Straightpoint Crosby Shackles page).
