Tensitron STX-Plus Strap Tension Meter - Data Sheet

    F.A.Q.

What does the STX-Plus actually measure?

It measures the static (stationary) tension in straps, bands, twine, wire, and similar materials, the holding force that keeps a load tight. Readings are taken on materials that are not moving, making it ideal for verifying strap tension on finished pallets and shipments or checking band saw blade tension before cutting. It is purpose-built for quick, accurate static tension verification on the production floor and during routine inspections.

Is the STX-Plus made in the USA, and what is Tensitron's background?

Yes. Tensitron has manufactured precision tension measurement instruments in the USA since 1935, and the STX-Plus is a Made-in-USA instrument backed by that heritage. The same experienced technicians who build the instruments also calibrate and service them in-house.

What applications and industries is the STX-Plus used for?

The STX-Plus is used across packaging, shipping, warehousing, agriculture, and general industrial operations. Common uses include verifying strap tension on truck, rail, and warehouse shipments, checking pallet and carton strapping to prevent crushed or loose loads, confirming baling twine and wire tension in agricultural packaging, and checking band saw blade tension to protect cutting accuracy and blade life. Companies such as American Woodmark and Kingspan use Tensitron STX meters to standardize strap tension and reduce product damage.

Can the STX-Plus be used to set band saw blade tension?

Yes. Checking band saw blade tension is a core STX-Plus application; proper blade tension helps maintain cutting accuracy, reduces blade wear, and prevents premature blade failure. Because it handles stiff, stationary materials, it works well for fence wire and saw blades in addition to conventional strapping.

What is the measurement range of the STX-Plus?

The STX-Plus measures from 1 lb to 2,000 lb on stationary materials. For the full specification set, download the STX-Plus Data Sheet from the product page.

What units of measurement does the STX-Plus display?

The STX-Plus offers selectable units of pounds (lb), kilograms (kg), or decanewtons (daN), so you can match your existing quality documentation and work instructions without manual conversion.

    How accurate is the STX-Plus?

The STX-Plus is accurate to ±2% of full scale for custom-calibrated models; pre-configured STXM models are ±3% to ±4% of full scale depending on the model. Because accuracy is full-scale based, choosing a range close to your working tension keeps absolute error as small as possible. Each meter ships with a NIST-traceable calibration certificate from Tensitron’s in-house, ISO/IEC 17025-accredited calibration. The meter also ships with an operating manual, available for download from the Tensitron software page.

How large is the STX-Plus and what straps does it physically accommodate?

The STX-Plus is a lightweight, portable instrument in a durable, industrial-grade housing, designed for one-handed use. It accommodates straps up to 4 in wide and 1/4 in thick. What strap and band materials does the STX-Plus work with? The STX-Plus is designed for versatility across poly (plastic) and metal strapping, woven materials, nylon tie-down straps, and stiff stationary materials such as fence wire and saw blades. It accommodates straps up to 4 in wide and 1/4 in thick.

Can the STX-Plus be configured for my specific strap sizes?

Yes. The meter can be custom-calibrated for your specific straps, or set up using a standard menu of commonly used strap sizes. Custom configurations for specific straps and materials are a standard STX-Plus feature, which keeps readings accurate to the exact material you run.

How do I take a reading with the STX-Plus?

The STX-Plus is built for quick, intuitive, one-handed operation; you engage the strap and read the tension directly on the multi-screen color display. A tolerance bar on the display gives operators an at-a-glance pass/fail indication against your target range, so even non-technical staff can verify tension reliably. Each unit ships with a carrying case, a NIST-traceable calibration certificate, and an operating manual (available for download from the Tensitron software page).
