Honigmann Tension Meters, Mechanical

F.A.Q.

What is the difference between the Hans-Schmidt ZF2/ZD2 and the DX2 Series?

The Hans-Schmidt ZF2 and ZD2 are compact, lightweight tensiometers with a thumb-activated outer roller mechanism designed for low-tension textile yarns and fine filaments (0.5 cN to 300 cN). The Hans-Schmidt DX2 Series features a heavy-duty cast-aluminum pistol-grip housing with a lever-operated roller shifting mechanism and built-in material thickness compensation, supporting higher tensions up to 20 kg (and up to 50 kg on the DX2H).

Can I use a standard 3-roller yarn tension meter on pretensioned, non-moving ropes?

No. Standard 3-roller tensiometers like the DX2 are designed for running (moving) lines where the material feeds freely over the outer rollers. For stationary, pretensioned wire ropes and fiber cables up to 4 mm in diameter, use the Hans-Schmidt DNW Tension Meter, which uses a high-leverage clamping arm to deflect fixed lines accurately.

How does the Checkline STM-50 measure screen printing mesh tension without power?

The STM-50 rests directly on the stretched screen mesh and uses its own calibrated dead-weight to deflect the fabric against three contact points, displaying the exact mesh tension in Newtons per centimeter (7–50 N/cm) on a shock-resistant mechanical dial.
