The G.A.L. Gage Co. Cat. # 8 Fillet Weld Gauge 7-Piece Set (GAL-8 Series) is engineered for welding professionals seeking maximum accuracy, speed, and durability. Designed to quickly and precisely verify eleven (11) standard fillet weld sizes—ranging from 1/8" to 1" (or metric equivalents)—this comprehensive 7-piece set ensures your welds comply with strict industry standards, whether inspecting leg length, throat thickness, or evaluating concave and convex weld profiles.
Manufactured by G.A.L. Gage Co. and distributed by ABQ Industrial, the Cat. # 8 Fillet Weld Gauge Set is an essential inspection tool for quality control in structural steel fabrication, pipelines, shipyards, and heavy industrial maintenance.
Each gauge blade is constructed from premium cold-rolled stainless steel, meticulously deburred to eliminate rough edges, and finished with permanent laser-engraved numerals and graduations that resist wear in harsh shop environments. Housed in a compact, durable 2" x 4-1/2" pocket case weighing just 4 oz., this tool is built for everyday field use. Available in inch and metric configurations, with options for single- or double-sided markings to match your exact inspection workflow.
The G.A.L. Gage Co. Cat # 8 Fillet Weld Gauge is also included as a component in several comprehensive welder and inspector kits featured in the Related Products section below.

How to Use
- Selecting the Correct Blade: Choose the specific stainless steel blade corresponding to the desired fillet weld size (ranging from 1/8" to 1" or metric equivalents) from the 7-piece set
- Checking Fillet Weld Leg Length: Place the straight edge of the blade flat against the base plate and slide it until the tip touches the vertical member, verifying that the actual leg length matches the required specification
- Checking Convex Fillet Welds: Position the single-arc corner of the blade flush against the base material so that the blade tip contacts both the weld face and the vertical member simultaneously, confirming proper convex profile and size
- Checking Concave Welds (Undersize Verification): Position the double-arc corner of the blade flat against the base material and vertical member; if the center tip does not reach the weld face, the weld is concave and undersize, indicating that additional filler metal is required
- Verifying Throat Thickness: Utilize the precision-machined edges and laser-etched indicators on the blade to quickly verify both theoretical and actual throat thickness for structural code compliance
Easy to Use
G.A.L. Fillet Weld Gage is easy to use Gage blade must be flush to the base material with the tip touching the vertica member. Use the singles arc corners for measuring CONVEX weld. Use the single arc corners for determining if the welds are concave (under size). If They are, more filer material is required to build weld throat to the size Where the tip between the double arcs touch
Convex Weld Place single arc edge flush to base material so blade tip touches vertical member. If tip touches the weld as it touches vertical member, the weld is the size indicated.
Concave Weld Place double arc edge flush to the base material so tip touches vertical member. If the tip between the double arc touches the center of the weld, the weld is the profile desired and is the size indicated.
