    Product Description

Ensure precise weld quality and compliance with industry standards using the G.A.L. Gage Co. CAT 3 Adjustable Fillet Weld Gauge (GAL-3). Designed for accurate measurement of fillet weld leg lengths and throat thicknesses, this rugged, highly reliable tool is an essential addition to any welding inspector or quality control toolkit. Built to withstand harsh industrial environments, it delivers quick, dependable results on structural steel, piping, and fabrication projects.

The CAT 3 Adjustable Fillet Weld Gauge by G.A.L. Gage Co. is engineered to eliminate guesswork in welding inspection. Whether you are performing routine maintenance, structural inspections, or manufacturing quality checks, this gauge provides the precision needed to verify that fillet welds meet strict engineering specifications and code requirements (such as AWS). Featuring an easy-to-read scale and a smooth adjustment mechanism, the GAL-3 allows operators to quickly measure convex and concave fillet welds, ensuring structural integrity and safety across diverse industrial applications.

The G.A.L. Gage Co. Cat # 3 Adjustable Fillet Weld Gauge is also included as a component in several comprehensive welder and inspector kits featured in the Related Products section below.

    Certification

The G.A.L. Gage Co. Cat # 3 Adjustable Fillet Weld Gauge can be certified. The certification is not included in the base price and is available at an additional cost. Just add it to cart if your quality control or compliance standards require it.

    Features

    • Multi-Functional Inspection: Checks fillet weld leg lengths, unequal (asymmetric) leg sizes, and weld throat thickness
    • High Versatility: Designed to check 15 different sizes of fillet welds using just one compact tool
    • Precision Calibration: Calibrated to 1/32" increments (with metric equivalent options available) for superior accuracy
    • Unequal Leg Measurement Feature: Includes a specialized small back scale to easily measure asymmetric/unequal leg fillet welds
    • Locking Pointer with Thumb Screw: A convenient thumb screw holds the pointer securely in position for future reference or concave/convex weld evaluation
    • Permanent Laser/Chemically Etched Markings: Figures and increments are deeply etched into the stainless steel surface for permanent legibility
    • Rugged & Portable Design: Crafted from heavy-duty, rust-resistant stainless steel; lightweight (1.5 oz) and pocket-friendly

    Applications

    • Structural Steel Fabrication: Ideal for inspecting building frames, bridges, and heavy machinery components where accurate fillet weld leg and throat sizes are required
    • Pressure Vessels and Boilers: Ensures fillet weld integrity and compliance with ASME and other stringent code requirements
    • Pipeline Construction and Maintenance: Essential for verifying fillet weld dimensions in pipeline joints, support structures, and field installations
    • Welding Training and NDT Inspection: A standard, reliable tool utilized worldwide by certified welding inspectors (CWI) and non-destructive testing (NDT) professionals

    How to Use

    • Measuring Equal Leg Fillet Welds: Loosen the thumb screw, slide the 45° offset arm until it touches the toe of the vertical leg, and read the leg length directly from the scale
    • Measuring Unequal Leg Fillet Welds: Determine the required size from specifications (e.g., 5/8" x 3/8"). Set the 45° sliding scale to the larger dimension (5/8"). Set the small back scale to the difference between the legs (1/4") and lock the screw, then proceed with standard measurement
    • Measuring Weld Throat Thickness: Place the 45° angle flush against the horizontal and vertical members. Slide the pointer until it touches the center (face) of the weld, lock with the thumb screw, and read the throat size. Note: If the weld is concave, the reading indicates if additional filler material is needed to meet code standards
