What is the difference between magnetic and eddy current measurement principles?
Magnetic principles are used for non-magnetic coatings on ferrous substrates (steel and iron) by measuring changes in magnetic flux. Eddy current principles are used for non-conductive coatings on non-ferrous metal substrates (such as aluminum) by measuring electrical impedance variations.
Do electronic gauges require frequent manual calibration adjustments?
Most modern electronic gauges (like the PosiTector 6000) arrive factory-calibrated and ready to measure. Performing a quick zero check on an uncoated piece of the actual job substrate ensures maximum measurement precision before starting an inspection.
When should I choose a mechanical banana gauge over an electronic gauge?
