The Cat # 33 Pocket Size Pit Gauge (Mini Pit Gauge) is an essential, ultra-compact inspection tool designed for rapid and accurate depth measurement of pits, corrosion, and surface irregularities. Manufactured by G.A.L. Gage Co. and distributed globally by ABQ Industrial, this precision gauge is engineered for quality control inspectors, maintenance engineers, and NDT professionals working in harsh industrial environments.
Built from high-grade stainless steel, this miniature pit gauge delivers exceptional durability and corrosion resistance. Measuring just 2.25" x 0.75", it easily fits into a shirt pocket or tool belt, making it instantly accessible for field inspections. Despite its small footprint, it provides high-precision readings up to .025" with clear graduation increments, ensuring reliable assessment of metal loss on pipelines, storage tanks, pressure vessels, and structural steel.
Certification
The Cat # 33 Mini Pit Gauge can be certified. The certification is not included in the base price and is available at an additional cost. Just add it to cart if your quality control or compliance standards require it.

How to Use
- Surface Preparation: Clean the inspection area thoroughly to remove dirt, grease, scale, or loose rust around the pit
- Positioning: Place the flat base of the gauge firmly onto sound, uncorroded metal immediately adjacent to the pit or defect.
- Probing: Carefully slide or lower the pointed indicator tip into the deepest point of the pit
- Reading: Read the depth directly from the scale indicator in .005" increments
- Evaluation: Compare the measured pit depth against engineering code limits (e.g., ASME, API) to determine if repair or replacement is required
